The Role of a Traffic Officer - How 2 Become

The Role of a Traffic Officer - How 2 Become Traffic Officers play a vital role in keeping the roads safe. They serve by dealing with general road and traffic tasks. While this might not seem important, this means that the police can get on with cases which require their specialised skillset. This is the general role of a Traffic Officer.Traffic Officer â€" What Are Traffic Officers?Traffic Officers are employed individuals who conduct general operations on roads throughout England and Wales. While they aren’t strictly members of the police force, they fulfil a number of tasks that police would usually do, taking some of the pressure off them so that they can focus on prevention and solving of crimes. As previously mentioned, Traffic Officers in the UK are not police officers. Instead, they are civilians who serve to keep the roads safer. This means that you can become a Traffic Officer without joining the police force. The Role of a Traffic Officer â€" What Do Traffic Officers Do?Traffic Officers perform a lot of duties on roa ds in England that would previously be carried out by police. This includes closing roads, stopping traffic, authorising relaxations of highway regulations and managing traffic. These are units which carry more equipment than Traffic Officers, allowing for better response to incidents. Part of a Traffic Officer’s job is to be able to work both with ISUs and police officers to make sure that the road is safer. The Role of a Traffic Officer â€" What Powers Do Traffic Officers Have? While the police are called out to do with crime on the road, and collisions, Traffic Officers have the power to do the following:• Close roads; • St op traffic; • Place traffic signs and use them; • Manage traffic at places where traffic surveys are taking place; • Remove or arrange for the removal of vehicles that are causing an obstruction on the road, such as abandoned or broken-down vehicles; • Authorise specific exceptions and relaxations of motorway regulations. For example, Traffic Officers can authorise use of the hard shoulder in order to alleviate more severe traffic. On top of this, Traffic Officers have the power to do the following as of the Traffic Management Act 2004: • Direct a driver of a vehicle to stop; • Direct pedestrians to stop; • Place temporary signs and cones on the road. The Role of a Traffic Officer â€" ConclusionSo, now you have an idea of what Traffic Officers are and what role they perform in keeping roads in England and Wales safe. Do your work projects bring value to your career - Hallie Crawford

Do your work projects bring value to your career I was excited to be featured in this recent career article on the Work Reimagined website, How To Pick Projects That Will Boost Your Career. I wanted to share a couple of additional thoughts with you: 1) Diving into something new to boost your talent in your career, or beef up your skills, is also a good way to network. You can meet new people in the firm that you may not have, or clients youre working with who you havent interacted with before. This can increase your list of networking contacts in this new area of skill for you. 2) Remember to mention what you accomplished on new projects in your resume and on your LinkedIn profile. We often dont update our resume for years if weve been in the same position for a long time. Keep your resume fresh. Make a task to update it every 6 months so you dont forget anything. Updating your resume doesnt mean that you want to leave your job. You can also use these stories or examples in a performance review. It helps you remember to keep track of your performance. 3) Be willing to say No as well. If a project isnt going to directly boost your career and may end up being a drain on your time, say no and be confident with that decision! Realize your time is valuable and that you want to spend it on productive activities. If you’d like more help with your resume, contact us today for a complimentary consultation. Career Coach P.S. National Adoption Day Workplace Benefits That Can Help

National Adoption Day Workplace Benefits That Can Help There’s a common perception that adopting a child is cost-prohibitive for many lower- and middle-class families. But according to two adoption experts, that isn’t necessarily true. The truth is the costs vary widely. Adopting an infant domestically or abroad can add up to as much as $30,000 once travel, lawyer’s fees, and home-stays are accounted for. On the other hand, adopting a child from foster care costs much less (virtually nothing, save travel fees). To help with some of those costs, the government offers financial help to adoptive families. There is a nonrefundable federal tax credit which allows families to claim a one-time tax credit per child (it was $13,400 in 2015), and some states offer additional tax incentives. Additionally, families who adopt a child from foster care may qualify for monthly subsidies to help pay for child care costs. Rita Soronen, CEO of the David Thomas Foundation for Adoption, says about 92% of children in foster care qualify for an adoption subsidy. There are also organizations that offer grants to families who wish to adopt a child, as well as tuition assistance programs to help pay for college. A report from United Cerebral Palsy and Children’s Rights finds that as many as one-third of children in foster care have disabilities, “ranging from minor developmental delays to significant mental and physical disabilities.” Adam Pertman, President and CEO of the National Center on Adoption and Permanency and author of the book Adoption Nation, says that families must therefore be prepared for potentially increased child care costs. “The costs are not just upfront, if you’re adopting a child with special needs, there are on-going costs,” he says, pointing to the potential need for specialized care. But parents facing potentially high costs could find additional assistance in the workplace. Some employers provide financial benefits to families that adopt, such as a lump sum payment or reimbursement for adoption-related expenses. IBM, for example, pays up to $5,000 for related expenses, while EY will pay up to $25,000. According to American Adoptions, this assistance typically covers public or private agency fees, court costs and legal fees, and may also cover medical costs and counseling fees. Workplace benefits for adoptive families are far from the norm, however. Paid parental leave is still incredibly uncommon in the U.S., and even less so for adoptive parents: McDonald’s, for example, offers maternity leave at half-pay, but does not extend this to adoptive parents (or fathers). “Employers implicitly favor one form of family formation over the other,” says Pertman. “They don’t have any easier job than the people who get six months or a year off to raise their new born.” Currently, workers are allowed to take sick days from work to adopt a child. And agencies may allow advanced sick leave, which gives employees 30 sick days to use related to adoption. According to Soronen, it’s a shame more employers don’t provide more benefits. Not only are they relatively inexpensive to offer (very few employees will actually adopt), but they signal that the company has its workers’ (and their families’) best interests at heart. “It provides a sense of parity, a sense of good will, and frankly employers have said if they have a choice between two companies, they’re likely too see [adoption benefits] as a positive comment on the culture of the workplace,” says Soronen. The silver lining is that increasingly more organizations are offering adoption benefits to their employees. An annual survey of 1,500 major U.S. employers found that just 12% offered a financial adoption benefit in 1990, compared to nearly 50% of companies today (the David Thomas Foundation ranks the most adoption-friendly work places each year). Which means that more kids are finding a loving home.

Behavioral Interview Questions How To Nail Them (And How To Fail Them)

Behavioral Interview Questions How To Nail Them (And How To Fail Them) Tell me about a time when...If those six words make you squirm, youre elend alone. According to asurveyby Everest College and Harris Interactive,92 percent of Americans report that they will get anxiety about an upcoming job interview. As behavioral interview questions and answers become increasingly popular in the job search, that means that interviewing has a larger focus on telling potential employers about a time when. But job interviews dont have to be stressful. Or, rather, they dont have to be as stressful. With the right preparation, the right mindset and a strong cup of coffee to jolt your confidence (that last one not required) you can turn a story into a good answer and ace a behavioral interview.First things first What is a behavioral interview (BI)?A behavioral job interview question seeks to draw out your past behavior (hence the name) with an open-ended question. Your answer tells an interviewer how y ou have operated (and hopefully thrived) during certain, typically challenging job situations. Job seekers will want to have multiple examples on hand so theyre prepared for any situational interview question, regardless if its an in-person or phone interview. It also shines light on your job communication style. If you answer ansicht questions succinctly and well, you show first hand that youre a strong communicator. If you wander aimlessly and, after a 10-minute winding narrative, ask What welches the original question? youre showing that you may struggle with framing answers, information and your competencies in a compelling and meaningful way something that you do not want to do in an interview.Whats the best structure for answering a BI?There are various methods you can utilize when answering a behavior-based interview question. Regardless of the position a candidate is interviewing for, I recommend my students and clients use theSTAR method. The STAR method stands forSituation, Task,ActionandResult. Its a simple way to frame your answer to include brief context (situation), highlight what was expected of you and what you had to deliver (task), share what action you personally took (action) and the work outcome (result). How to use the STAR methodThe best way to get good at a BI is the way you hone all your other skills practice. And since practicing actual questions is fruchtwein effective, lets look at sample answers for five of the most common BIs that can trip people up by unpacking what the question is meant to unearth about candidates, a strategy to respond effectively and a common trap in each.5 common behavioral interview questions1. Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult coworker. What this question is afterThis question is about work style and interpersonal abilities. Its not I repeat, it is not a time to vent about or bad-mouth a team member from an old job. The trick in applying STAR here is to move quickly through the diffic ult situation. Spend only a few seconds setting the stage on what made the working relationship a harte nuss focusing on the relationship and not on her and spend the high majority of your answer expressing how you overcame this.Situation While serving as the project manager on across-functionalproduct launch team at Acme Industries, one of my co-leads struggled with prioritizing team outcomes over individual recognition.Trap to avoidYoure highlighting your colleagues tendency to prioritize her own recognition over the greater good of the team, but youre not launching into a litany of what a glory hog this woman was (or is). The objective is to move on and share how you overcame her behavior to drive results.2. Tell me about a time when a project you worked on did not meet expectations. What this question is afterThis question is about accountability, ownership and whether you can take responsibility for setbacks or another stressful situation. Its important to reference a specific example in this question. Remember its about your reaction to a poorly performing situation, not about the situation itself.Situation Last year, I took on a new leadership role overseeing a test business that wasnt performing as expected.Task I was tasked to improve operational performance by 50% within six months. An ambitious but at the time a seemingly doable goal.Action Simply put, we fell short. Very short.Result Rather than wallowing or simply saying that the business was a herausforderung, within three months I saw the writing on the wall, so I got ahead of it. I approached my management team, shared the facts and owned the shortcomings. I also made a decision to both readjust the timeline and reprioritize the program, which would allow us to better staff.Trap to avoidIt can be uncomfortable talking about a problem. When a job interview gets uncomfortable, theres often overcompensation, which in an interview can mean rambling Resist the urge to offer too many details. Aim for short and sweet in this one. If your interviewer has mora questions, shell ask a follow-up. Otherwise, you do not need to offer every small detail.Pro Tip Use first-person pronouns to further show your accountability. Its easy to use we to water something down dont do this3. Tell me about a time when you had to deliver difficult news to a key customer or stakeholder. What this question is afterThis question is aboutcommunication. The fact that you had difficult news at your old job is not the focus, dont fall into the trap of overly explaining everything that went wrong. Instead, focus on how you handled the less than ideal news.Situation and task together After working for weeks to earn a key new account, I had to communicate the less than ideal news that we did not win the account to my management team.Action I called a formal meeting and shared all relevant information and opted to proactively share what I thought we could have done better that would have helped to win the b usiness.Trap to avoidTMI too much information. Like many BIs, the easy-to-fall-into trap is offering too much detail. This is an interview, not a therapy session or a happy hour with your friends. Be succinct and to the point. This job interview question is asking about your communication, not about the issue.Pro Tip Sometimes to be succinct it helps to merge some parts of the STAR method together, like communicating the situation and task in a single, short phrase.4. Tell me about the project or accomplishment you are most proud of.What this question is afterAt its core, it will reveal a shining moment of yours. It also reveals what you define assuccessand lets you share any unique moments of your career to date.Situation I was given the opportunity quite early on in my career to lead an entire business deal, start-to-finish, on my own.Task I was expected to own the entire operation. It was pretty awesome.Action I did the research, built the pitch deck and led the entire presentat ion. Results We won the business. The best part? The VP of the client told my manager that she hadnt seen that strong of a presentation in years.Trap to avoidBeing unprepared or being too stale. This should be a softball question for a job interview, but you would be surprised at the number of people who are not prepared to answer it. Practice this one and be sure to infuse your personality and favorite job experiences into itPro Tip ALWAYS have an answer to this question ready, even if youre not interviewing5. Tell me about a time your boss made a decision with which you disagreed. What this question is afterThis question explores how you work with others, as well as whether your ability to navigate potential conflict and broach difficult conversations in the workplace. The hiring manager also wants to see how you interact with people in positions of authority.Situation My boss put a junior team member in charge of a large account, despite his lack of experience.Task My coworkers, es pecially one with more experience who wanted the account, were upset, and I decided to broach the subject privately with my manager.Action I asked to have a conversation and presented the reasons why someone else would be better equipped to lead the account.Result We had a polite, professional conversation, in which I expressed my concerns and explained why another sale representative was better qualified. I was careful not to belittle the original choice or make assumptions about my managers reasoning. Ultimately, he agreed that we should wait for the more junior team member to prove himself.Trap to avoid You should never say negative things about your previous or current manager because this will show the hiring manager that youre not a team player and might not respect authority figures.Pro Tip Maintain a positive attitude, focusing on what you did rather than the problem or disagreement. How to prepare for a behavioral interview.1. Research, research, research.Thoroughly investig ate the company, hiring manager, recruiter and any potential colleagues.2. Review the above questions and other behavioral interview questions. These will help you figure out what kinds of scenarios, skills and experiences you should keep in mind when responding.3. Practice the STAR method. As outlined above, the STAR method asks you to call on a Situation, Task, Action and Result. Practicing responses will prepare you for the actual interview.4. Write out previous experiences, skills and qualities. This will help you solidify them in your memory, so you can draw on them when your speaking to the interviewer.Rock itNow you know what a behavioral job interview is, the best methods to answer them and how to answer five of the most common questions without falling into their traps.
